Autopsy Confirms Spicy Chip Caused Teen's Death

Massachusetts Teen's Tragic Demise Raises Concerns

A subsidiary of the Hershey Company has announced the voluntary removal of its ultra-spicy One Chip Challenge from stores following the death of a Massachusetts teenager who consumed the product.

Harris Wolobah, a high schooler, participated in the Paqui One Chip Challenge on September 1st, according to CBS News WBZ. The chips, marketed as the "one chip challenge," contain extremely high levels of capsaicin, the compound that gives chili peppers their spiciness.

Wolobah's family said he began experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath after eating the chip. He was rushed to the hospital but later died. An autopsy confirmed that the teenager ingested high doses of capsaicin, which led to heart arrhythmia and ultimately his death.

The Paqui One Chip Challenge has been marketed as a "dare" to consumers who are willing to test their tolerance for extreme heat. However, the recent incident has raised concerns about the safety of consuming such high levels of capsaicin.

The manufacturer of the chips has advised retailers to remove the product from their shelves and has offered full refunds to customers who have purchased it. The company has also expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased teenager.
