Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Hits Japan

48 People Killed, Tsunami Warnings Issued

Major Search and Rescue Operation Underway

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has struck western Japan, triggering tsunami warnings and killing at least 48 people. The Japan Meteorological Agency says the quake hit at 5:27 a.m. on Monday local time, with its epicenter in Okayama Prefecture. The quake was followed by a series of aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 5.3.

Tsunami warnings were issued for coastal areas of western and eastern Japan, but they were later lifted. However, authorities are still urging residents to stay away from the coast as aftershocks could cause additional tsunamis.

A major search and rescue operation is underway in the affected areas. Emergency services are working to locate and rescue people who may be trapped in collapsed buildings or under debris.
