University of St. Thomas Professor Explores the Meaning of Work

St. Paul, Minn. – Christopher Wong Michaelson, Ph.D., assistant professor of business ethics at the University of St. Thomas, explores the meaning and purpose of work in his new book, "Work Worth Loving: A Philosophy of Work for Humans."

Michaelson argues that work is not simply a means to an end, but an essential part of human flourishing. He draws on stories from real people and recent scholarship to make his case.

"We need to work to make a living, but we also work to find meaning and purpose in our lives," Michaelson said. "Work can be a source of great joy and satisfaction, but it can also be a source of great pain and suffering.

Michaelson's book offers a philosophical framework for understanding the meaning of work and how to find work that is worth loving. He argues that work should be seen as a form of service to others and that it should be done with excellence.

"Work is not just about making money," Michaelson said. "It's about making a difference in the world and making a contribution to society."
